Usain Bolt loses Olympic gold medal

Usain Bolt has lost one of his Olympic gold medals
after Jamaica were retrospectively disqualified from
the 2008 sprint relay.
A statement from the International Olympic
Committee said re-analysis of team member Nesta
Carter's Beijing sample had tested positive for the
prohibited substance methylhexaneamine.
The decision to strip Jamaica of their 4x100m title
deprives Bolt of one of his nine golds won across
three Games between 2008 and 2016.
Carter ran the first leg of the Beijing final as
Jamaica set a new world record, a mark they
surpassed in London four years later.
Trinidad and Tobago are now in line for promotion to
the gold medal position, with Japan taking silver and
Brazil bronze.
Another 2008 medallist, Russian long jumper Tatiana
Lebedeva, has lost her silver medal after testing
positive for turinabol.
The IOC announced in the run-up to last summer's
Rio Games it would begin retesting samples from
2008 and 2012 in a bid to restore confidence in the
sport.

A 48-year-old man, Gabriel Adetoyosi on Friday,
appeared in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo

and malicious damage.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court
that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 1,
2016, about 11.00 a.m at No 6, Adetola Street,

British man dies working on Qatar 2022 World Cup stadium

A British man has died while working on a flagship
2022 World Cup stadium in Qatar, the organisers have
said.
The 40-year old man, who has yet to be named, died
on Thursday while working on the Khalifa International
Stadium.
His next of kin has been informed and an investigation
into his death is under way, the organisers said.
In a statement on its website, the Supreme Committee
for Delivery and Legacy shared its "deepest
condolences with the family for their loss".
The BBC understands the man was employed by a
specialist German contractor.
Khalifa, a multi-purpose venue in Qatar's capital Doha
and the home of the national football team, is being
extended from its current capacity of 40,000 to 68,000.
Due for completion in the first quarter of this year, it is
scheduled to host the 2019 World Athletics
Championships and the 2022 World Cup matches up to
the quarter-finals stage.
The conditions for workers refurbishing the stadium
attracted attention last year from the rights group
Amnesty International, which accused Qatar of using
forced labour.
Qatar said it was "concerned" by the allegations and
would investigate.
It followed previous reports in 2015 of some 1,200
workers who had died building the stadiums in Qatar
for the World Cup.
Though the first World Cup stadium was only started in
2014, subways, hotels and even an entire city are being
built - along with an airport, numerous roads, a new
sewerage system in central Doha and 20 skyscrapers.

Donald Trump inauguration: 45th US president to be sworn in

Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the 45th
president of the United States.
The property tycoon won an unexpected victory in
November's election after a controversial campaign.
Hundreds of thousands of supporters and protesters
are gathering in Washington DC for the event.
Thousands of police have been deployed and many
kilometres of crowd barriers set up as part of a vast
security operation.
Addressing supporters on Thursday night at a pre-
inaugural concert, Mr Trump pledged to unified
America, bring change and make the country great "for
all of our people".
Meanwhile in New York, thousands of people attended
a rally where dozens of celebrities and politicians
voiced their concerns about the president-elect.
Mr Trump will be sworn in before midday local time
(17:00 GMT) by Chief Justice John Roberts, and make
his inaugural speech.
The ceremony will be attended by former presidents
and first ladies, including Bill Clinton and his wife
Hillary, Mr Trump's opponent in the recent election.

The only absences will be 92-year-old George Bush
Senior, who is in hospital being treated for respiratory
problems , and his wife Barbara.
Members of Congress will also be there, although more
than 50 House Democrats have said they will boycott
the event .
An estimated 800,000 to 900,000 people are expected
to be in Washington over the next few days, although it
is not clear how many are coming to celebrate the
inauguration and how many to protest against it.
Demonstrations for and against Mr Trump include a
rally for the new president by Bikers for Trump after
the ceremony.
The Women's March on Washington on Saturday - for
racial and gender equality, and other issues perceived
to be under threat from Mr Trump's administration - is
expected to draw about 200,000 people.

Tottenham Hotspur stadium: Five facts about Spurs' new home ground

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed images of the club's
new stadium which is being built in north London.
The 61,000-seat stadium will be the largest-capacity
football ground in the capital when it opens in 2018.
It will include what is believed to be the longest
general admission bar in a UK stadium as well as
heated seats, a micro-brewery and an in-house bakery.
Chairman Daniel Levy said the ground would "redefine
sports and entertainment experiences".

Uber to pay $20m to 'misled' drivers

Between January and March 2015, ride-sharing service
Uber put out ads on Craigslist in the hope of attracting
new drivers by offering attractive hourly rates of pay.
In Boston, for example, it told potential drivers they
would earn $25 an hour.

In truth, fewer than 10% of drivers in the city actually
managed to bring in that amount, according to a
lawsuit brought by the US Federal Trade Commission.
In separate statements pushed out to the media and
posted on its own site, Uber said “the potential income
a driver on UberX can make in a year is more than
$90,000 in New York and more than $74,000 in San
Francisco”.
The FTC said the median amount earned in those
cities - for drivers working a 40 hour week - was
significantly less ($29,000 and $21,000 less,
respectively).
The FTC listed 18 cities across the US where it said
Uber was painting a far more lucrative picture than was
realistic. In Baltimore, fewer than 20% of drivers earned
$16 an hour. Chicago - fewer than 20% earned $21.
Minneapolis - 10%, $18. And so on.
'Cost, risk and burden'
On Thursday, Uber agreed to pay $20m to those drivers
in order to settle the claim. Quite how it will do that it
isn’t yet clear, but the FTC has ordered the company
to work with it to find a way.
The company said its settlement didn’t constitute an
admission of guilt, disputing the way the FTC
calculated its figures.
The company said it has modified the way in which it
advertises potential earnings to new recruits - but
would not go into further detail.
"We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with the
FTC,” a spokeswoman said.
"We’ve made many improvements to the driver
experience over the last year and will continue to focus
on ensuring that Uber is the best option for anyone
looking to earn money on their own schedule.”
Drivers complain, however, that the improvements to
the driver experience do not extend to covering the
costs of running and maintaining a car.
"The reality of being a ride-sharing driver is a far cry
from the rosy picture these apps describe and it is
encouraging to see the FTC take them to task and
refund drivers,” said Jim Conigliaro from the
Independent Drivers Guild.
"Companies like Uber shift cost, risk, and burden onto
drivers and taxpayers when they fail to provide the
basic benefits so many Americans take for granted,
from health insurance to sick leave.
"On top of that, drivers are stuck with the bill for their
vehicle, gas, repairs, maintenance, insurance, the list
goes on.”
The FTC also criticised Uber over the financing options
it gave to drivers interested in leasing a car via the
company.
The regulator said drivers were paying an average of
$200 per week - higher than first advertised. Money to
pay the lease is automatically taken from a driver’s
earnings.

Gambia crisis: Jammeh given last chance to resign as troops close in

West African leaders have given Yahya Jammeh a final
opportunity to relinquish power after Senegalese troops
entered The Gambia.
Mr Jammeh has been given until noon on Friday to
leave office or be forced out by UN-backed regional
forces.

Troops have been told to halt their advance until the
deadline passes.
The Economic Community of West African States
(Ecowas) is acting in support of Adama Barrow, who
was sworn in as the new Gambian president on
Thursday.

His legitimacy as president, after winning last month's
election, has been recognised internationally.
Africa Live: Gambia updates as deadline looms
Last-ditch mediation talks, led by Guinea's President
Alpha Conde, are due on Friday morning.

Chairman of the Ecowas commission, Marcel Alain de
Souza, said that if the meeting with Mr Conde proved
unsuccessful, militarily action would follow.

"If by midday, he [Mr Jammeh] doesn't agree to leave
The Gambia under the banner of President Conde, we
really will intervene militarily," he said.
Ecowas said that its forces had encountered no
resistance after entering The Gambia on Thursday.

Two presidents: What next?
From estate agent to Gambian president
Troops from Senegal and other West African countries
crossed into The Gambia after an initial deadline for Mr
Jammeh to stand down passed without his resignation.
Mr Barrow, who remains in Senegal, has said that he
will not return to Gambia's capital, Banjul, until the
military operation had ended.

The threat by the West African regional bloc Ecowas to
remove Mr Jammeh by force is supported by the 15-
member UN Security Council, although the council has
stressed that a political solution should be the priority.
A Senegalese army spokesman, Col Abdou Ndiaye, told
the BBC that troops who were now in The Gambia
were prepared to fight if necessary.

"It is already war, if we find any resistance, we will
fight it," he said, adding: "If there are people who are
fighting for the former president, we will fight them."
But Col Ndiaye said the main goal of Ecowas was to
restore democracy and to allow the newly-elected
president to take power.

In his inaugural speech at the Gambian embassy in
Senegal's capital, Dakar, President Barrow ordered all
members of The Gambia's armed forces to remain in
their barracks.
Any found illegally bearing arms would be considered
"rebels", he said.

Why is Mr Jammeh refusing to go?
After first accepting defeat he reversed his position
and said he would not step down. He declared a 90-day
state of emergency, blaming irregularities in the
electoral process.

The electoral commission accepted that some of its
early results had contained errors but said they would
not have affected Mr Barrow's win.
Mr Jammeh has said he will stay in office until new
elections are held.
Remaining in power would also give him protection
against prosecution for alleged abuses committed
during his rule.

Dan Evans into Australian Open fourth round after beating Bernard Tomic

Dan Evans is into the fourth round of a slam
for the first time in his turbulent career – on
the same side of the draw as Andy Murray –
after pulling a master stroke bordering on
gamesmanship to beat Bernard Tomic 7-5,
7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) in just under three hours on
day five of the Australian Open .

After missing his first
serve at deuce at five-all
in the third, and
struggling with either
cramp or a sore foot,
Evans complained
vociferously that the lines
had become dangerous
because of a light drizzle, and insisted play
be stopped or the roof on Hisense Arena,
where Murray earlier beat Sam Querrey in
three sets in high wind, be drawn across.

Evans, a streetwise maverick, dashed from
the court for a quick break, while Tomic sat
in his chair, shaking his head and, when play
resumed shortly afterwards, Evans held,
forcing a desperate fightback from Tomic to
force a second tie-break. There, he completed
the job, tormenting Tomic with his sliced
backhand to the point where he could not
control his final forehand.

Evans next plays a former finalist here, Jo-
Wilfried Tsonga, who beat the rising
American Jack Sock 7-6 (4), 7-5, 6-7 (8), 6-3.
The Frenchman, seeded 12, will be more tired
than Evans, having taken three hours and 33
minutes to get it done.

The Evans-Tomic battle was a wonderful
match, full of brilliant and clever shot-
making, and invested with rolling drama
from start to finish. There was a lot of mutual
respect at the finish.
“I should say thank you to the crowd,” Evans
said courtside, turning the catcalls to cheers.

“It was a great atmosphere and made the
match way better. It was tough. Bernie’s
unorthodox, plays aggressive. It could have
gone either way. I was just focusing on the
end result all the time. It was the same for
both [he said of the rain interruption]. We
both handled it pretty well.”
Tennis is crying out for players with attitude,
and these have enough to fill a UFC bill.

Evans, who hit 58 winners and nine aces to
Tomic’s 17, held his nerve the better in key
points but the Australian contributed to the
entertainment too, stroking the ball elegantly
in reply to the artful tennis of the
Birmingham player, two years his senior but
similarly headstrong.

“Me and Dan Evans are good friends and I
respect him for what he’s achieved,” Tomic
said beforehand of the history between them.

The Australian’s father, John, once
memorably told Evans he was not good
enough to hit with his son – although he won
their only Tour encounter, over five terrific
sets at the US Open in 2013. Evans was not
bothered when asked about it this week, but
clearly he will have taken a lot of satisfaction
from this win.

It was a delicious match-up of styles, Evans
probably a little more court-smart, Tomic, the
last of 11 Australians in the men’s draw, a
delight when opening up with his languid
power behind one of the most reliable serves
in the game, but he couldn’t hold in the first
game of the match, and the Birmingham
player was into his stride.

What Evans understood (and which Tomic
plainly knew) was the Australian is at his best
when feeding off his opponent’s power, so
down it came in a welter of slices and drop
shots, Evans holding with a single-handed
backhand slap down the line.

He inexplicably handed the break back from
40-15 up with a couple of sloppy ground
strokes – only for Tomic to reciprocate
immediately, then squander two of three
break points before forcing a final error out
of Evans in the sixth game. It was not shaping
up as a conventional contest, and on they
stumbled to parity, until Evans got another
precious break point at 5-all, and Tomic
obliged by shoving a lazy forehand into the
tramlines.

Evans served out to love with an ace – and
another big hit wide that struck a ball girl. He
apologised, smiled and moved on, in grand
style as it happens, taking the second set on a
tie-break, then moving through the gears in
the third.

He framed a volley to avoid break point in
the seventh game, but thrashed a volley
needlessly for deuce. Tomic let his attacking
instincts disrupt his rhythm and Evans drop-
shotted him for 4-3.

He was under serious pressure in the ninth
game and played with courageous intent to
save three break points, one with a running
winner that Tomic was magnanimous enough
to applaud. He hit the fastest of his aces,
131mph, but looked to be seizing up with
cramp or soreness in his right foot before
smashing at the net for 5-4.

And then followed his artful dodging.
Probably the only Australian not screaming
insults at him for what they perceived as
gamesmanship was his girlfriend, Emma
Blake-Hahnel. Life is rarely dull with
Dangerous Dan.

See The 10 Signs Your Girlfriend Just Slept With Someone Else

I know that many ladies will not like this thread but
the truth is bitter they say. These are perfect signs
that your girlfriend just tumbled beneath the sheets
with someone else.
Note:- These signs don’t work for Badoos

1. She smells of Fluid
For those of us who have high sense of smell than
that of a shark will attest to this. As for me, I can
smell Fluid on a lady’s body even if she’s 100km
away. This mostly happens when a lady fails to
shower or clean up herself aftermath of the deed.

2. She rushes to the bathroom
Just when your girlfriend returns from somewhere
and the first thing she does is rush to the bathroom
to clean up and sleep afterwards, something
suspicious is happening.

3. She smiles sheepishly
The moment she sets her eyes on you after sleeping
with someone else she will be smiling sheepishly
even when situation does not warrant that smile.
This may be due to guilty conscience.

4. She tries to avoid eyes contact with You
Another sign that your girlfriend just tumbled
beneath the sheet with another dude is that she will
avoid eyes contact with you during conversation. Try
just to give her a suspicious look and you would
notice discomfort printed on her face.

5. Her shirt looks Rough and Dirty
The region of the left and right side of her breast
pockets will be slight rough and dirty since na that
region guys dey squeeze pass. Though, this may only
be visible when she’s putting on a white shirt. I
noticed this when my friend’s visitor came out of his
room yesterday.

6. She would turn down your advances
Just after she has made love with another person
and you try to coerce her into love making, she
won’t be excited to have intimacy with you. She will
always look for an excuse telling you how tired she
is, or she’s not in the mood.

7. She spends more time in the toilet
Let’s assume she normally poo poo for 10 minutes
but one day she returns from somewhere and goes
to the toilet and spends up to one hour shocked This
shows that something is wrong which might be what
we are talking about.

8. She starts nagging unnecessarily
She flares up the moment you ask what kept her so
long. She will go mad telling you to stop getting her
upset with you irrelevant question and that you don’t
trust her to have asked such a question

9. Her lipstick is wiped off
Another way to know that she just got laid with
someone else is that her lipstick will be wiped off.
Let’s assume she applied heavy lipstick before going
out and on returning back her heavily applied lipstick
disappears, there’s high tendency that she has
locked her lips with someone else.

10. Her make up is freshly applied
Another sign to watch out for is that her make-up is
freshly applied. Her hair will be well packed, her
clothes well adjusted and sprays perfume.

Person wey commot in the morning dey return back
in the evening and the make-up is freshly applied.
This shows there’s possibility that she reapplied the
make-up after the deed was done so that you won’t
smell something.

See The 5 Funny Styles Nigerian Guys Use To Toast A Woman (Find Yours)

Most Nigerian guys have a lot of growing up to do
when it comes to psyching ladies. They have not
given up on the weird ways in which they ask ladies
out or call out to women.

Toasting Styles
In this present age and time where there is
technological advancement, you will expect some of
these Nigerian guys to flow with the tides and be
more confident when it comes to asking women out.
You would even expect some of them to be brave
and summon the courage to walk up to women.
Moving on to the ridiculous ways in which men
approach women in Nigeria, you will laugh at some
of the things they use as their pickup lines. Women
on the other hand are tired of hearing the same old
story and are more likely to turn down whoever
approaches them with lame lines.
Find below some of the lame and ridiculous lines
Nigerian guys use when they want to ask women
out:

1. The whistlers
Nigerian guys in this group are usually the touts and
agberos you see around. They would rather hang
around in groups and make noise when they see a
pretty lady walk by. You will not even be sure of the
one that has interest in the babe as they would keep
making funny sounds with their mouths.
If you the lady looks in their direction, they would be
inspired to throw lewd and bawdy remarks at her. If
she ignores them, they would insult her and her
generation.

2. The swagalicious bouncers
The Nigerian guys that fall within this group are so
conscious of themselves. They believe in the have
the confidence to walk up to any woman and ask
her out. This confidence is not so far-fetched;
having dressed in sagging jeans and some shirt with
sneakers, they feel they are presentable enough for
any girl to like and immediately fall for.
They however mess up the situation with the
attitude they put up with it, they bounce and are so
conscious of themselves to the point that they do
not pay attention to what the ladies are saying.

3. Those who call you baby the first time
Some Nigerian guys do not know that women get
turned off when they walk up to them for the first
time and start to use words that are endearing on
them. It makes them look cheap as the women keep
wondering if they use these words for every woman
they meet.
Those who call women ‘baby’ are usually business
men who have goods on the high sea; they are
boisterous and entice women with their assets.

4. The weaklings
The Nigerian guys you will find in this category are
those who feel intimidated by women and their
successes. They would stick around as friends until
they gather enough momentum to tell the women
about their feelings. They are usually afraid of being
turned down and would tag along until they feel the
women are starting to acknowledge them.

5. The smooth guys
Trust me when I say the Nigerian guys in this
category are good; they are so smooth they would
have you trip with the silliest remark they say.
Whether they make sense or not, most girls would
drop their guards when men like these approach
them.

Which style do you Use? Mine is number five (5)

CRIME Man who allegedly stole $1.6M in gold flakes in NYC arrested in Ecuador; was reportedly deported 4 times

The man police say snatched $1.6 million worth of
gold flakes from an armored truck in New York City
in September was arrested Thursday in Ecuador,
The Daily News reported.
The report said Julio Nivelo, 53, was deported four
times to Ecuador, but managed to make his way
back to the U.S. Federal agents from Homeland
Security assisted in his capture.
The report said authorities believe Nivelo made his
way from New York to Florida and then to
California. It is believed he made his way to
Ecuador from California.
He was described in the report as a career
criminal and police sources told the paper he
made similar grabs ranging from jewelry in a
courier truck and camera equipment.
Still, the video of the gold flakes swipe was
remarkably brazen to many.
The footage is said to show the man capitalizing
on a 20-second window left open by the guards,
one of whom was making a pickup while the other
was walking to the front seat.
The theft unfolded on West 48th Street in the
Diamond District on Sept. 29 — in broad daylight —
as tourists and locals were walking in and out of
the countless jewelry stores that line the block.
A surveillance camera captured the opportune
heist on tape and showed the man making off with
the 86-pound bucket. Throughout his hour-long
escape, he appears to struggle with the gold flakes
— stopping to set them down several times and
even attempting to carry them on his shoulder at
one point, according to NBC.
There is no immediate word as to where the gold
flakes are.

Lyon agree a deal to buy Manchester United forward Memphis Depay

Lyon have agreed a deal to sign Memphis Depay from
Manchester United for a fee which could rise to
£21.7m, according to Sky sources.
Sky sources understand United will have a buy-back
option as well as sell-on clauses inserted into the
deal that takes the Netherlands international to the
Ligue 1 club.
The potential add-ons include Lyon securing
qualification for the Champions League and the
winger signing a new contract with them.
Depay has found his first-team opportunities limited
this season under Jose Mourinho
Depay will undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a
move to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
The 22-year-old joined United from PSV Eindhoven
for £25m in June 2015 under the management of his
compatriot Louis van Gaal, but fell out of favour
following the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford
last summer.
He has featured just eight times for United under
Mourinho, with his last appearance to date coming
against Feyenoord in the Europa League on
November 24.
Depay, who has also attracted interest from Everton,
is set to become the second big-name departure
from United this month following the sale of Morgan
Schneiderlin to the Toffees.
He has played 53 times in total for United, scoring
seven goals.

Sevilla end Real's unbeaten run

Jovetic ended Real Madrid's 40-game unbeaten run
and blow the La Liga title race wide open.
After a cagey first half, Real Madrid took a 66th
minute lead through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty after
Dani Carvajal was brought down by Sevilla goalkeeper
Sergio Rico.
But Jorge Sampaoli's men emerged as the winners
thanks to an own goal from Sergio Ramos and former
Mancester City forward Jovetic's late winner.
The result means Real Madrid top the La Liga table
by just one point, with Sevilla up to second ahead of
Barcelona, who beat Las Palmas 5-0 on Saturday
afternoon.

Mahrez scores twice to rescue Algeria

Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Algeria left it late to
earn a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of
Nations.
The Leicester winger put his side ahead with a curling
shot in off the post.
But Kudakwashe Mahachi's low shot into the corner
and a Nyasha Mushekwi penalty made it 2-1 to
Zimbabwe - a lead they held until the 82nd minute.
Algeria hit the bar twice before Mahrez levelled with a
speculative 25-yard shot that Zimbabwe goalkeeper
Tatenda Mukuruva should have saved.
While Mukuruva may feel embarrassed at his error,
Algeria just about managed to save their own blushes
as they rescued a point from their Group B opener - a
match they were very much expected to win.
Zimbabwe, making their first appearance at the finals
since 2006, will perhaps count themselves a little
unlucky after playing some excellent football.
Khama Billiat was superb for the Warriors and was only
denied a spectacular 30-yard goal by an outstanding
fingertip save from Algeria goalkeeper Rais Mbholi, who
diverted the ball on to the post.
Mbholi thwarted Billiat on more than that one occasion
and also produced a brilliant save with his leg to keep
out Cuthbert Malajila's shot when the score was 2-1 to
Zimbabwe.
But Algeria improved considerably after the interval and
forced Zimbabwe back.
They hit the woodwork twice, through a Ramy
Bensebaini header and when Zimbabwe defender Elisha
Muroiwa narrowly avoided an own goal when he sliced
a clearance.
Mahrez proved their saviour, even if it will not go down
as the cleanest strike he has ever hit.
And the Desert Foxes had chances to win the match,
particularly when Mukuruva came flying out and left his
goal wide open but Yacine Brahimi could not take
advantage.

Everton condemn Pep Guardiola to his biggest ever defeat after crushing Man City 4-0

Everton produced a brilliant performance to stun
Manchester City and deliver a serious blow to Pep
Guardiola's Premier League title hopes.
The Toffees willingly soaked up 71% of City possession
but restricted Guardiola's side to few chances and
scored with four of just six attempts at goal.
Romelu Lukaku coolly side-footed in a Kevin Mirallas
cut-back and the Belgium internationals combined
again after the break, Mirallas drilling Lukaku's through-
ball across the keeper.
Tom Davies sent Goodison Park into raptures on just
his second league start by dinking a third over Claudio
Bravo and £10m debutant Ademola Lookman fired
between the legs of the keeper in injury time.
Goals from the two teenagers left Everton boss Ronald
Koeman visibly elated, while Guardiola cut a frustrated
figure, remonstrating with the fourth official late on in
what is his heaviest ever league defeat as a manager.
City lacked cutting edge throughout, though had Davies
not headed a looping Bacary Sagna header off the line
before half-time, they may not have gone on to suffer a
fifth league defeat of the season.
They stay fifth, 10 points off leaders Chelsea, while
Everton remain seventh.

Arsene Wenger: No problem with Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has dismissed Alexis Sanchez's
reaction to being substituted at Swansea as a "minor,
minor, minor" incident.
The Arsenal boss replaced star men Sanchez and
Mesut Ozil in the 79th minute in south Wales with his
side 4-0 up, prompting the Chilean to kick his gloves
and sit on the bench under an overcoat.
Both Sanchez and Ozil are inside the final 18 months
of their Arsenal deals, and talks over extensions on
improved terms have come to nothing.
But Wenger, who defended Sanchez's behaviour after
this month's 3-3 draw at Bournemouth , played down
the latest show of displeasure from his top scorer.
"Looking at the game tonight, that is really minor,
minor, minor," he said. "All players are frustrated
when they come off - some show it, some don't. I am
long enough in the job to know that.
Swansea 0-4 Arsenal
"He's a good guy who gives a lot and wants to do
well, always, for the team. There is no problem.
"But every culture is different. Some South
Americans are a bit different to Europeans, Southern
Europeans are different to northern Europeans. You
have to respect that. That's why we are a multi-
national team.
"Look, he is hugely influential, Sanchez, but we also
had players on the bench who are strikers, who need
competition. We were 4-0 up. Ozil as well comes
back from sickness so it was a good opportunity not
to be stupid."
Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck were the strikers
introduced against Swansea, Welbeck making his first
Premier League appearance since suffering a serious
injury at Manchester City last season.
Wenger said: "I look at the players coming on. We
have some good players like Danny Welbeck coming
back and it was an opportunity to bring him into the
competition."

Jose Mourinho compares Paul Pogba to Frank Lampard

Jose Mourinho has compared Paul Pogba to Frank
Lampard and says tactical tweaks have helped the
Manchester United midfielder become more
“dynamic” in recent weeks.
Pogba initially struggled to make the kind of impact
expected after his world record £89m move back to
Old Trafford from Juventus in the summer but has
been in fine form recently, playing a key role in his
side’s nine-game winning run.
Mourinho has compared him to the former Chelsea
midfielder, who is the Blues’ all-time leading scorer
with 211 goals, with the Portuguese saying tactical
adjustments and offering guidance have helped to
get the best out of the 23-year-old, much like he did
with Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is Chelsea's all-time leading scorer
with 211 goals
"I've worked with Paul, tactically as mentally,”
Mourinho said. “I did nothing special. It is part of
him. His technical and psychological qualities are
part of him.
"Tactically, I have tried to adjust him and give some
guidance and try to make a dynamic player for the
team where he can be dangerous and can arrive in
certain positions where he has the potential to score.
"I remember when I arrived at Chelsea in 2004 and, in
my first match, I played a 4-4-2 where Lampard was
the inside player on the left side. It took me a couple
of months to understand that this guy had so much
potential to score goals that I had to change for him.
Jose Mourinho was always confident good results
would come at Manchester United despite
"It is the same with Pogba, but these are the little
details when you work with players. With more time,
you try to understand them and try to get the best
out of them."
Pogba has become more influential in recent weeks
for Manchester United as they look to keep pace with
the top four in the Premier League.
Danny Higginbotham examines three key tactical
areas where Manchester United v Liverpool could be
won or lost.
He has scored twice and provided three assists in
the last eight games and Mourinho believes he can
become a prominent goalscorer for United.
"Paul is very happy in the way the team plays and
the team allows him to play,” he said. "I think he can
score goals. I don't want to set targets for him, but I
just feel that in every match he can potentially score
a goal.
Manchester United boss Mourinho says Pogba can
become a goalscorer for the club
"Paul will always get into positions where he will
have a free-kick or a shot from 20 to 25 metres. So I
always feel, in every game he will have conditions to
potentially score."

Chinese set foreign star limit

Teams in the Chinese Super League can only field
three foreign players in a game following the
introduction of new rules.
China's domestic football league will kick off in
March with its popularity gaining momentum following
the recent acquisition of stars from the English top-
flight, such as Chelsea duo Oscar (Shanghai SIPG)
and John Obi Mikel (Tianjin TEDA).
Sky sources have also reported Blues striker Diego
Costa has become unsettled by a £30m-per-year
offer from a Chinese club and was involved in a
training ground spat, reportedly ended by manager
Antonio Conte telling him to "go to China".
However, there appears to be concern over the lack
of development for younger local players with the
Chinese Football Association announcing an
immediate cut to the number of overseas stars
allowed in the league.
Every team will only be allowed to have three foreign
players on the pitch at one time, and can only have
five in the 18-man match day squad.
There must also be two Chinese U23 players in the
squad and one must start. Up to now, teams had
been allowed to field three foreign players and one
non-Chinese Asian foreign player.
The new rules were due to be introduced in 2018, but
will now be in force for the start of this season. The
ban on foreign goalkeepers remains.
Sky Sports secured the rights last year to show live
games from the Chinese Super League for three
seasons.

West Ham co-owner David Gold says Dimitri Payet will not be leaving the club this month.

West Ham co-owner David Gold says Dimitri Payet
will not be leaving the club this month.
"I am saddened by the recent revelations that Dimitri
Payet wants to leave West Ham United," he told the
club website. "We have met all of his requirements
since he joined and we committed long-term to him
when we gave him a new five-year contract back in
February 2016, so this is hugely disappointing.
"We have made it clear that he is not for sale and
we want to see some loyalty from him, after Slaven,
the players and all the fans have given him so much
support.
"We gave Dimitri the opportunity to play in the best
league in the world when he wasn't in the France
team and a platform that has helped him become one
of the best players in Europe.
"Slaven gave him the confidence to excel in the
Premier League and he got back into the France
team due to his impressive form at West Ham
United. He signed a long-term contract last year and
we want him to honour that."

Super Kane sends Spurs second

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Tottenham beat
West Brom 4-0 at White Hart Lane on Saturday to go
second in the Premier League.
Spurs dominated from the start and struck twice
before half-time, first through Kane (12) and then
thanks to a Gareth McAuley own goal (26).
Kane added his second with a fine volley on 77
minutes and repeated the trick five minutes later,
firing home from Dele Alli's scooped pass to cap a
brilliant performance from the hosts.
Harry Kane returned to the starting line-up following
the birth of his first child
The victory sends Tottenham, who also lost Jan
Vertonghen to an ankle injury, into second in the
table above Liverpool, who face Manchester United
at Old Trafford on Nissan Super Sunday.
It is also their sixth consecutive Premier League win,
matching a club record they can break with three
points at Manchester City next weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino, taking charge of his 200th game
in English football, made nine changes from
Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa, restoring
Alli and Kane to the starting line-up.
The hosts controlled the opening half with West
Brom uncharacteristically shaky in defence, and
Tottenham swiftly took the lead.
Mauricio Pochettino was taking charge of his 200th
match in English football
Kane, who had already squandered one early chance,
made no mistake with his second, firing in off the
post from Christian Eriksen’s pass.
Tottenham added a deserved second when the
Dane's drive from the edge of the box took a double
deflection, first off Jonas Olsson and then McAuley,
wrong-footing Ben Foster in the West Brom goal.
Christian Eriksen forced Tottenham's second goal in
the first half
Alli saw a smart volley correctly ruled out for offside
as Spurs threatened to run riot, and only Foster kept
the score respectable in the first half, twice denying
Kane from close range before tipping his low drive
onto the post.
Tony Pulis’ side failed to register a shot of any
description before the break but went close less than
60 seconds after the restart when Matt Phillips
dragged an effort just wide.
The Baggies manager soon introduced James
McClean and Hal Robson-Kanu and they improved,
but Foster continued to be the much busier of the
two goalkeepers.
His fine double stop kept out strikes from Toby
Alderweireld and Vertonghen, and he also made
impressive saves from Victor Wanyama and Kane
again before the Spurs striker finally grabbed his
side’s third.
Kyle Walker robbed McAuley on the flank and with
Foster caught out of position, Kane expertly volleyed
into an empty net.
Danny Rose tangles with former Tottenham
midfielder Nacer Chadli
Having missed the victory over Villa to attend the
birth of his first child, Kane capped a perfect week
by sealing his hat-trick with another volley minutes
later.
Alongside Alli, the pair have now combined to score
Tottenham's last 10 Premier League goals.
The only worry for Pochettino will be the injury
suffered by Vertonghen, who appeared to badly tweak
his ankle in the second half.
An injury to the same ankle caused the Belgium
international to miss his country's quarter-final
defeat to Wales at Euro 2016 and he left the field
after pounding the ground in frustration.

Diego Costa has been dropped from Chelsea's squad to face Leicester after a row with manager Antonio Conte,

Leicester
Diego Costa has been dropped from Chelsea's squad
to face Leicester after a row with manager Antonio
Conte, according to Sky sources.
It is understood he has not trained with the first-
team for the last three days after he was the subject
of a £30m-per-year offer from a club in the Chinese
Sky sources understand the Spain striker has become
unsettled by the approach from China, which would
make him one of the highest paid footballers in the
world, and he became embroiled in an argument with
two fitness coaches.
Conte then stepped in and, according to Sky in Italy,
the row ended with the Italian shouting: "Go to
China!"
Sky sources understand that owner Roman
Abramovich has no intention of selling Costa, who
has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.
The 28-year-old Spain international did though
express his support for his team-mates late on Friday
night by posting a photo on Instagram from the
Blues' win over Tottenham in November, along with
the caption: "Come on Chelsea!!!", plus a heart emoji.
But it comes as a major blow to Chelsea as the
Premier League leaders look to get their title bid
back on track at the King Power Stadium on Saturday
evening, following their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last
week.

Chelsea's Antonio Conte has been named Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month: October ✅ November ✅ December ✅

Antonio Conte has been named Barclays
Premier League Manager of the Month for
December, becoming the first man to win the
prize three times in succession.
The Italian, who beat off competition from
Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Liverpool’s
Jurgen Klopp, has been rewarded for the team’s fine
form throughout the month, when we took maximum
points from our six matches.
Just like in October and November, when Conte also
won the award, the Blues were able to produce
exciting attacking football while also remaining solid
from a defensive perspective.
We conceded just three goals in December, with two
of those coming in our final game of the month, the
4-2 win against Stoke City. We scored 13, including
three away at Manchester City.
Conte was delighted to take the prize once again,
particularly given the number of fixtures over the
course of what is always a busy month.
‘I’m very proud,’ he tells the official Chelsea website.
‘It’s a great honour for me but I want to say thanks
to all of my players, my staff (pictured below) and
the club because we won the award together. Now
it’s important to continue to work very well together.
‘I enjoyed my first Christmas period a lot. This type
of atmosphere only happens in England and it was
fantastic. I hope to experience it again many times in
the future.
‘When you win you usually see a lot of positive things
and every game was different. We won six matches
and to do that, especially in December, is very
difficult.
‘If I had to pick out one game I would choose West
Brom, because it was very tough and we scored with
15 minutes remaining. My players showed me great
character and a strong will to win right until the end
that day, which I always like to see.’
Conte’s focus now switches to ensuring we
strengthen our position at the top of the table
tomorrow when we travel to Leicester.
‘It’s a big game,’ he says. ‘We started January with a
loss against Tottenham, which was a pity because I
think the game was well balanced, but now we have
a tough game at Leicester and it’s important to
restart a good run in the Premier League, we must
play with great concentration.’

EVERTON SIGN SCHNEIDERLIN

So they’ve finally got their man; Morgan Schneiderlin
is now an Everton player.
The 27-year-old France international has signed a
four-and-a-half-year deal at Goodison Park, moving
for an initial £20m fee that could rise to £24m.
It would appear the prospect of reuniting with former
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman played a huge
role in Schneiderlin’s decision to leave Manchester
United.
“Everton is a big club in the history of English
football,” he said. “I’ve always loved the atmosphere
in the stadium. I’ve always liked playing here. I can’t
wait to play and to represent this great Club.
“There is a manager in place here that I know, I know
he can get the best out of me, I know his style and
how he likes to play football. He was very good with
me from the start and I enjoyed playing football
under him.”

Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Manchester United is presented with the Premier League goal of the month award for December

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won December's Premier
League goal of the month award for his 'scorpion
kick' volley against Sunderland.
The Armenian international produced the acrobatic
effort for United's third goal in a 3-1 win over the
Black Cats at Old Trafford .
Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness debate who
scored the better scorpion kick, Olivier Giroud or
Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan - a summer signing from Borussia
Dortmund - flicked the ball from behind him with his
right foot and into the corner, despite being offside
from Zlatan Ibrahimovic's cross.
Speaking about the strike, Jose Mourinho told Sky
Sports : "It was beautiful. It's a pity that it's the third
goal in the game and not a phenomenal goal to win a
great match, because that would be in Manchester
United history.
Manchester United’s Mkhitaryan produced a
contender for goal of the season in their 3-1 win over
Sunderland on Boxing Day
"It's always good for him, he was playing very well,
he had that injury that stopped his evolution, but then
he comes back, plays 35 minutes and well, and
shows that he is ready to be back to the level that
he himself created expectation to all of us, because
he is doing great things."

MAKELELE JOINS SWANSEA

Former Chelsea, Real Madrid and France
legend Claude Makelele has joined Paul
Clement's coaching staff at Swansea.
Makelele played under Clement for a short
spell at Chelsea and also worked with him on
the coaching staff under Carlo Ancelotti at
Paris Saint-Germain.

MIURA TO PLAY PAST 50

Yokohama FC forward Kazuyoshi Miura will continue
his career into his 50s after signing a new deal with
the second-tier Japanese club.
Miura netted last year at the age of 49 to make him
the oldest goalscorer in the history of their domestic
league. He will turn 50 next month.

Flavour and Diamond Platnumz to perform at AFCON 2017 Opening Ceremony

Nigerian contemporary king of high-life Flavour will
be performing at the AFCON 2017 opening
ceremony. The “Ololufe” crooner will be performing
alongside Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz in
Gabon at the African Cup of Nations.
The African football event will commence on January
14th 2017 in the host country Gabon. Both Flavour
and Diamond performed at the GLO CAF Awards
2016 some days back in Abuja.
After the opening ceremony, the host nation, Gabon will
be taking Guinea–Bissau after which Cameroun will
also face Burkina Faso at the 40,000 seater friendship
stadium in Libreville.

EVERTON AGREE SCHNEIDERLIN FEE

A reminder of the news that broke last night and it
involves Everton and Manchester United midfielder
Morgan Schneiderlin.
Everton have reached an agreement to sign
Schneiderlin from Old Trafford in a deal worth £22m,
according to Sky sources .
Schneiderlin is expected to undergo a medical this
week and will be reunited with his former manager
Ronald Koeman, under whom he flourished while the
pair were together at Southampton.
The France international was brought to United by
Louis van Gaal in a £24m deal in the summer of 2015
but has failed to win favour since Jose Mourinho
took over last summer.
It is understood the fee could rise to £24m with add-
ons.

World Cup: Fifa to expand competition to 48 teams after vote

The World Cup will be expanded to host 48 teams, up
from 32, Fifa has decided.
An initial stage of 16 groups of three teams will
precede a knockout stage for the remaining 32 when
the change is made for the 2026 tournament.
The sport's world governing body voted unanimously in
favour of the change at a meeting in Zurich on
Tuesday.
The number of tournament matches will rise to 80,
from 64, but the eventual winners will still play only
seven games.
It will make a mockery of the
qualification process for most
confederations
Campaign group New Fifa Now
The tournament will be completed within 32 days - a
measure to appease powerful European clubs, who
objected to reform because of a crowded international
schedule.
The changes mark the first World Cup expansion since
1998.
New Fifa Now, a campaign group that says the
governing body needs to reform, labelled the expansion
"a money grab and power grab".
"It will dilute the competitiveness of the tournament
and, therefore, the enjoyment of fans," it said in a
statement.
"It will not help development of the game or provide
improved competitive opportunities for lower-ranked
nations. Instead, it will make a mockery of the
qualification process for most confederations."
Why expand?
Fifa president Gianni Infantino has been behind the
move, saying the World Cup has to be "more inclusive".
Speaking at a sports conference in Dubai in December,
Infantino said expansion will also benefit "the
development of football all over the world".
He added: "There is nothing bigger in terms of boosting
football in a country than participating in a World Cup."
Despite saying "the decision should not just be
financially driven", Infantino did highlight the possible
financial upsides.
According to Fifa's own research, revenue is predicted
to increase to £5.29bn for a 48-team tournament,
giving a potential profit rise of £521m.

The FIFPro World 11 is dominated by La Liga stars

Barcelona and Real Madrid dominate the 2016 FIFPro
World 11 which was announced at The Best Fifa
Awards ceremony in Zurich.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is the only
player included within the team who did not ply his
trade in Spain's top flight last season.
Current Juventus right-back Dani Alves is the other
current non-La Liga player, though he played the
whole of last season at Barcelona, having only joined
the Italian champions in the summer.
The rest of the defence is made up by Real skipper
Sergio Ramos, Barca and Spain centre-half Gerard
Pique and Real's Brazilian left-back Marcelo.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former Argentina
legend Diego Maradona are among those in
attendance
The midfield includes Real Madrid and Croatia's Luka
Modric, Spain and Barcelona's Andres Iniesta and
Modric's Madrid team-mate and Germany
international Toni Kroos.
The front three consists of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez
and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Neymar and FIFA Men's
Player Award nominee Antoine Griezmann the most
high-profile omissions.
Antoine Griezmann, a FIFA Men's Player Award
nominee, was a surprise omission from the XI
The award, which is decided by the players, is
deliberated at the end of every season.
It involves votes from more than 25,000 professional
footballers from over 75 different countries with each
selecting one goalkeeper, four defenders, three
midfielders and three forwards.
Cristiano Ronaldo is included in the XI
The 55-man shortlist was revealed at the start of
December, including 14 players from the Premier
League with Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante, Dimitri Payet
and Claudio Bravo among the nominees.
FIFPro World 11: Manuel Neuer, Dani Alves, Gerard
Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni
Kroos, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez,
Cristiano Ronaldo.

Claudio Ranieri was named FIFA Coach of the Year for 2016

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has been named
as the Coach of the Year at the FIFA Football
Awards in Zurich.
The Italian was up against Fernando Santos, who led
Portugal to Euro 2016 glory in the summer, and
Zinedine Zidane, who guided Real Madrid to the
Champions League title last season.
However, the FIFA men's coach of the year award
went to Ranieri after he led Leicester to the Premier
League title last year.
Leicester celebrate winning the Premier League
"What a fantastic evening for not only to be here with
a lot of legends but to win as well," he said on stage
at the ceremony.
"I'm crazy now! Very crazy. Thank you so much. I
want to thank my wife, my agent and of course my
players. Without them it's difficult for the manger to
win something.
Ranieri was presented with the award by Diego
Maradona
"Also, the fans. What happened last season in
England was amazing, something strange. The god of
football said Leicester must win!
"Dani Alves said he could still do more at his age -
my age is 65! I start now to make a manager."
Ranieri celebrates winning the Premier League with
his Leicester players
Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and title-winning
midfielder N'Golo Kante, now of Chelsea, had been
among the nominees for the FIFA Fifpro World11 but
no Premier League players were selected, with
Barcelona and Real Madrid dominating the final list.
The FIFA awards were introduced after the game's
governing body split with France Football magazine
and ended their association with the Ballon d'Or
award.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the The Best FIFA Mens Player of 2016 Award

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the The Best FIFA Mens
Player of 2016 Award
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been
named the world's best player at the inaugural Best
FIFA Football Awards in Zurich.
The award comes off the back of Ronaldo winning
the 61st edition of the Ballon d'Or in December
following a stellar year which saw him achieve
Champions League and Euro 2016 success with Real
Madrid and Portugal.
Ronaldo has already won four Ballon d'Or's
Ronaldo beat Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Atletico
Madrid's Antoine Griezmann to clinch the prize on
Monday.
"Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. It's incredible. I want to
thank my team-mates of Real Madrid and the coach,"
said Ronaldo upon picking up his award.
"Thanks for everything you have done for me. I must
thank my family and my whole staff for everything
they have given me. 2016 was the best year of my
career.
Ronaldo's main rival Lionel Messi was not at the
event, nor were any of his Barca team-mates due to
team commitments
"I had a lot of doubts, but at the end of it the
trophies speak for themselves. They show I've lived
up to the expectations and I achieved the best I
could.
"This achievement is incredible. I will never forget
this year. I'm really happy."
Ronaldo had earlier been named in the FIFPro World
11, while Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri claimed
the FIFA Coach of the Year award.

West Ham in for Batshuayi

West Ham are interested in signing Chelsea forward
Michy Batshuayi on loan this month, according to Sky
sources.
The Hammers made a £31m bid to Marseille for the
forward during the summer transfer window but the
23-year-old Belgian moved to Chelsea in a £33m deal
instead.
Slaven Bilic is desperate for the club to bolster their
attacking options following failed bids for Jermaine
Defoe and Scott Hogan
However, with Batshuayi struggling for game time at
the league leaders and linked with a move away to
Swansea City, West Ham look set to enter the fray
for him once again.
Batshuayi scored 26 goals in 62 games for Marseille
in Ligue 1 over two seasons, convincing Chelsea to
splash the cash on him in July.
Batshuayi was a firm target of West Ham's in the
summer, with the Hammers willing to pay £31m to
Marseille
Since his move though, the Belgium international has
found himself firmly behind the in-form Diego Costa,
and has yet to start a league game so far this

Wike’s desperation resulted in several deaths in Rivers – Peterside

The Director General of Nigerian Administration and
Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside, says the
desperation of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom
Wike to become governor at all cost has “led to
loss of many lives and destruction of properties” in
the state.
Peterside said since Wike assumed power, there
has been wanton destruction of property and death
of people including security operatives across the
state.
He described Wike as an “embarrassment” to the
interest of the people of the state.
Peterside said this while reacting to the dismissal
of some police operatives by the Nigerian Police
Force over their alleged involvement in the
December rerun election in the state.
Recall that the Nigeria Police Force, had on January
6, 2016, dismissed an Inspector and five sergeants
attached to Wike for engaging in unprofessional
acts during the just concluded rerun in the state.
In a statement he personally signed, the former
governorship candidate of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, said Wike was out to give the state
a “bad name and rubbish the achievement of her
founding fathers.”
The APC Chieftain expressed deep reservations
over the “unbecoming attitude of Governor
Wike,”stressing that he has “serially compromised
security in the state and has been allegedly
involved in several electoral malpractices.”
He called on Wike to, “do some soul searching and
reconcile himself with what should truly represent
his direction and motive for governing the state. He
is virtually in the news for all the wrong reasons.”
The statement reads further, “What manner of a
man is Wike, his desperation to become governor at
all cost led to loss of many lives and destruction of
properties. Since becoming governor, it has been
bad news all the way. Many people, including
security personnel have been murdered in different
parts of the state. Now, policemen have been
dismissed from service all because of the
inordinate ambition of one man.
“How can the governor of a state force his way into
INEC collation centre and under heavy intimidation,
harassment and threat to life, force the returning
officer to declare a winner when the results of
Emohua and Etche local government areas have not
been collated.
“He clearly had no business storming the collation
centre with policemen and his thugs. He took his
immunity to a ridiculous level, thus endangering the
lives of people and career of security personnel.
“Here is a governor who cries at every given
opportunity, yet he is the one compromising every
known government institution to serve to selfish
ambition. Never have we had a governor who is so
unsure of himself and what he says.
“Not too long ago, he told Rivers people not to
participate in the probe panel set up by Inspector
General of Police, but the same governor is now
crying to Police IG to reveal those behind the killing
of two policemen during the rerun election. Same
man who vowed not to fund security agencies in
the state again is now the one saying he is ready
to support them. How do you associate Rivers
people with such a man who is not
straightforward?”
